It's no secret that science fiction has introduced many gadgets and gizmos long before they were a reality: cell phones, in-ear headphones, virtual reality games, electric cars, etc. (If you're curious to discover more, check out Gizmodo
's infographic covering the various ideas that went from science fiction to science fact.)
Of course, there are also those that have yet to become a reality despite the best efforts of many - like the hoverboards in Back to the Future
. While the hoverboards on the market currently are fun to ride, they still don't actually hover above the ground.
Personally, I'm waiting on teleporters to become a part of everyday living. There are some intriguing prospects out there in the field of quantum mechanics
, but it'll be awhile yet before anyone can walk into their living room and say "Beem me up, Scotty."
What about you, any science fiction inventions you're hoping will become a reality?
As soon as I read your title, I immediately started singing "Part of Your World" :) Cool post. I would really love for the teleporters to come out right now! You could go anywhere in a matter of seconds. Or you know what, I could go for a Tardis just as well.ReplyDelete
Lol. I started singing it too after reading your comment. The Tardis is a great choice! It’s taken Dr. Who some pretty cool places. Thanks, Julie.ReplyDelete
Fun post, KaLyn. Dr. Who's sonic screwdriver was pretty cool too.ReplyDelete
Thanks, Liz! The ability to control tech would be cool. Lots of possibilities. Dr. Who has some niffty gadgets.Delete
Like you, I'm waiting for the teleporter. No more long drives to the doctor's - just a few seconds, and we'd be there.ReplyDelete
No more traffic would be awesome! :)Delete
Hmm, so many choices! The Darby Shaw Chronicles by Liberty Speidel include cars that can hover over everything to avoid traffic, which would really come in handy!ReplyDelete
Cool! Those would be handy and a lot of fun too!Delete
