New Year's Resolutions (Laurie)

Happy New Year, and welcome to Lands Uncharted!  We're thrilled you took a moment to stop by, and hope you'll visit often!

As you may already know if you looked through the Intros, we'll have regularly-scheduled posts every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, plus an occasional unscheduled post when we have exciting news or something we want to chat about.  So make sure to check back next Tuesday - Erin has a post planned that fantasy fans won't want to miss!

In the meantime, the start of 2016 seems like the perfect time to talk about New Year's resolutions!  As I have the past few years, I'm resolving to exercise more - hopefully this will be the year it actually happens :)  I also have a resolution to complete my current manuscript, ideally in time for some contest and conference opportunities coming up later this spring and summer.  I'll keep you posted!

What are you looking forward to in the New Year?  Have you made any resolutions, and do you think there's a good chance you'll accomplish them?  You never know, putting your goals in writing may be just the motivation you need to make them happen :)

I wish you all a wonderful 2016!

See you next time!
Laurie

  1. Thanks, Laurie! One of my goals this year is to finish my Work in Progress (WIP) by the end of March. That means I actually have to schedule writing time on a calendar, though! Exercise is great, too. It is amazing how often I see things in nature on a walk that show up in my books, later.
Good luck with your resolutions, everyone!

    1. I love your idea to schedule writing time on a calendar - I may need to try something like that if I don't make some progress on my WIP soon :)

    2. I am thinking Fridays and Saturdays from 9-1. My kiddos are old enough to get their own breakfast on the weekends. : )

  2. I want to finish my current WIP by the beginning of March as well. I tend to over-polish what I already have, so I need to train myself to just write, write, write. That's definitely a goal this year!

    1. Thanks for your comment, Jebraun, I'm looking forward to getting to know each other on our writing journeys! I can definitely relate about getting caught up in editing - I have to remind myself that it doesn't matter how perfect the opening chapters of my manuscript are if it never gets completed :) Hopefully we'll both accomplish our writing goals over the next few months!

  3. Happy New Year! One of my goals this year is to be better about brushing and flossing my teeth. Exciting, no? :) I'm also excited about reading your work and that of your colleagues. What a genuninely exciting new project!

    1. Thanks Charity!! Ha, I should add flossing my teeth more often to my list, too, I always get scolded at the dentist :)

    2. That is a great resolution! I did "daily flossing" as my resolution a few years ago, and it made a big difference in my dental health. Hope it works out well for you, and that you're able to stick with it!

  4. Hey everyone! I agree with the flossing detail. ;) I guess my New Years resolution would have to be, growing stronger in my faith. And leading to rely on God's strength because mine is not enough. I have to say, I love fantasy. It's a great way to adventure in a land we create. But I especially love when a Godly moral is thrown in. It is definitely encouraging for me. I am so excited to read all the wonderful posts!

    1. Hi Lydia, thanks so much for stopping by! Growing stronger in your faith is a great resolution, I think we all could use some work in that area - at least I know I sure could :) If you love fantasy with Godly morals this will be the place for you! We're not limited to Christian fiction, but I know at least several of us enjoy reading it so hopefully you'll get some good book recommendations!

  5. So excited to participate in this blog.. This is a good way to start as I love making resolutions! I have a number of them:
    1. Expand upon my cooking skills by participating in a potluck dinner once a month, cooking within a theme and using only new recipes. Nice way to catch up with friends as well!
    2. Expand upon my knitting skills by taking knitting classes (thanks Laurie for your contribution to my classes!)
    3. Drink more water
    4. Hit a new PR for my half marathon time
Happy new year to all of you! :)

    1. Wow, look at you go! Very impressive list, especially the cooking skills - the potlucks sound like fun, keep me posted on new recipes you'd recommend! We're excited to have you participate, too :)

  6. Getting more exercise is a great goal to have! I plan to make a half-hearted attempt at that.

I am hoping to be more patient with my kids, even when they are asking me the same question for the fifth time in three minutes. :)

As a literary goal, I am hoping to complete my WIP and have it semi-polished in time for a relative's birthday in December. We'll see how it goes!

    1. Ha, I'm with you - I'm guessing my exercise resolution will be pretty half-hearted as well. But even a half-hearted attempt is better than nothing, right? :)

I definitely could work on being more patient with my kids, too! I hope you're having more success with that than I am so far this year...

Good luck finishing your WIP! Hopefully we can help motivate each other!
