Top Three Graphic Novel Choices to Gift for Christmas

Good Morning! In case you are, like me, still trying to find something fun for the hard-to-please tweens and teens on your Christmas list, there are several graphic novel sets out lately that are a fun way to experience fantasy.

3. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy. This graphic novel would be great for the people in your life who are excited to see the newest Star Wars: The Last Jedi, (the newest Star Wars movie that came out yesterday!), but who are too young to really understand all the backstory.

2. Flashpoint. As a fan of the DC Universe, I am excited about this re-release of a miniseries that imagines an alternate universe for Barry Allen. Barry is my favorite DC hero because he always does the right thing and has a strong moral compass. This series by Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert, like other DC Comics, is bright, colorful, and full of action, but do be sure to flip through and make sure the ones you are interested in are appropriate for your intended recipient.

 1. Amulet. By Kazu Kibuishi, the Amulet series follows Emily and her brother, Navin, through moving, having to rescue their kidnapped mom, and realizing Emily is a Stonekeeper. Not only does Emily need to rescue her mom, the weight of her world and the new worlds she discovers hangs in the balance. Full of endearing characters and plot twists, I also appreciate the nuggets of wisdom hidden throughout.

Contradictions in Terms (Erin)

Does anyone else feel like this time of year is full of contradictions?

The weather. . .I am happy it has been so warm here in Minnesota--but I can't wait for snow.

The sky. . . The supermoon at night is amazing, but I love the warm sun and deep blues of late autumn afternoons.

The holidays. . . I love the chance to gather with family, be thankful, and celebrate--but the to-do lists get a little crazy.

Family and friends. . . I treasure time spent with my family and friends--but the early nights make my introvert side come out, and sometimes I just want to curl up with a book.

Television. . . Who do you like better, The Flash--or SuperGirl?

Even music. . .Should I try to commit Hamilton to memory (minus the bad words)--or start listening to Christmas albums?

As much as I might long to be steady, even-keeled, and consistent, I think the contradictions in our  lives are part of what makes us uniquely human.

The writer of Ecclesiastes reminds us,
There is a time for everything,    and a season for every activity under the heavens--   Ecclesiastes 3: 1

Here's to embracing each moment the season brings.

What contradictions are you finding in your life right now? How can you embrace them?

Poll: Who is Your Favorite Super Hero? (Erin)

Hi There! In today’s poll, we want to know who is your favorite super hero?

Spiderman: An old favorite of mine. My dad bought me my first Marvel Spiderman comic book when I was five years old, and I followed the newspaper comic strip ever after.

Superman: Nearly invincible, Superman is my husband’s favorite. He grew up admiring Clark Kent.
“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!”

Batman:  Batman uses the bat mobile in the bat cave to fight crime in Gotham City. I still wish I had a trusty sidekick like Robin and a helpful butler like Alfred.

The Flash: Can you imagine getting struck by lightning and being able to run faster than a tornado when you woke up? What would you do with your new power?

Captain America: I don’t know much about Captain America, but he seems to be a favorite these days. If he’s your favorite, can you give me a reason?

LarryBoy: A favorite from Veggie Tales, he may be too little-kiddish for some of you, but how can you not love him?

Leave a comment and vote for your favorite! Results later this week!
