Poll: Who is Your Favorite Super Hero? (Erin)

Hi There! In today’s poll, we want to know who is your favorite super hero?

Spiderman: An old favorite of mine. My dad bought me my first Marvel Spiderman comic book when I was five years old, and I followed the newspaper comic strip ever after.

Superman: Nearly invincible, Superman is my husband’s favorite. He grew up admiring Clark Kent.
“It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Superman!”

Batman:  Batman uses the bat mobile in the bat cave to fight crime in Gotham City. I still wish I had a trusty sidekick like Robin and a helpful butler like Alfred.

The Flash: Can you imagine getting struck by lightning and being able to run faster than a tornado when you woke up? What would you do with your new power?

Captain America: I don’t know much about Captain America, but he seems to be a favorite these days. If he’s your favorite, can you give me a reason?

LarryBoy: A favorite from Veggie Tales, he may be too little-kiddish for some of you, but how can you not love him?

Leave a comment and vote for your favorite! Results later this week!

  1. Batman- no contest. I've only seen one movie of his (Batman Begins), but it was really cool. He's a real person who actually has no powers. But the main reason I like Bats is because that's my big brother's nickname- long story about how that happened. :) Captain America would probably be second, and Spiderman third. LarryBoy gets an honorable mention (he's *totally* a spoof on Batman, by the way!) and I don't know much about the other two contestants.

Thanks for picking such a fun topic!

    1. Interesting about your brother! I like a lot of the Batman movies! : ) Did you know your name means "Little Raven" in Welsh? (You share names with my youngest daughter. : ) Bran, the male form, is a hero in Welsh mythology. . . on another name tangent. : )

    2. I have actually heard that meaning before, but I didn't realize it was Welsh. Someone once told me that it had a variety of Gaelic meanings- strength, dark haired, tear drop, and raven- but the two languages are pretty close. You have excellent taste in names, by the way. :) I bet your daughter gets called Breanna and Brenda a lot. :)

    3. Thanks! Yes, she does, but it's okay. . . you are only the 3rd one we know. . . : )

  2. People (including me) love Captain America because he is good. Pure good. He always does the right thing, no matter what. He stands for freedom and righteousness, and he is a very selfless and sacrificial man. If you have seen any of the Avengers movies, it is pretty easy to see how that contrasts with Iron Man's ego, Hulk's unpredictability, and Black Widow's and Hawkeye's... Well, they're called super spies for a reason. Cap just stands out as the most moral member of the team.

As for my favorite, that is very difficult. Out of these, I love Batman, but I also really like Spidey's humor and Cap's goodness. Others not mentioned here include Hawkeye, Black Widow, Wolverine, and Storm, to name the ones that show up in movies. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of super heroes.

And of course, I love how you included Larry Boy on this list! Although he isn't really a serious super hero (in fact, he ended up not saving the day in two of his four movies), he is awesome and hilarious in typical Veggie Tales style. And yes, he is very much a spoof of Batman (utility belt, secret base, multimillionaire superhero, even his butler is named Alfred) and Superman (working at the Daily Bumble as a janitor so he can "keep his finger on the pulse of Bumblyburg," despite his money). And of course, swinging by his super suction ears is very reminiscent of our favorite web-slinger. :)

    1. I love Batman and yes. . .how could I forget Wolverine!? The first X-Men movie is one of my favorites! Thanks for reminding me! VeggieTales are so fun, aren't they? Lord of the Beans is another favorite!

  3. Captain America for all the reasons Hannah Nicole mentioned. Love him! And how can you not love Larry Boy (now I'll be singing his theme song for the rest of the morning!). Another favorite superheroes are those from The Incredibles, probably my favorite Pixar movie of all. LOVE Mrs. Incredible, how her character shows how flexible a mom has to be.

    1. Now that both of you mentioned him, I'll have to watch some of his movies! We're always looking for great Superhero movies around here. Thanks, Brenda!

  4. Hmm, I guess I'd have to say Spiderman, if only because those are the only superhero movies I've seen! It's great reading these comments, though, to know which other ones I should check out. As a side note, at lunch today my almost 4-year-old, who is interested in the idea of superheroes but knows very little about them, said "My power is to make bibs for people who need one but don't have one." I suggested we call him Bib Boy :)

    1. Funny! My kids say my superpower is finding things, which isn't very exciting, but I guess helps them. Or maybe they just know they can get me to help if they say I have a superpower!

  5. Thor, hands down. He does what's right, even when it hurts. I have a meaningful example, but it would be a spoiler. Suffice to say, he values the lives of others, including bad guys, enough that he is willing to sacrifice for them. He is forgiving, seeking a better relationship with a family member even though that person has done horrible things and wants nothing to do with him. He is humble, declining the throne, believing someone else would be a better ruler than him. He is also a redeemed character. He started out proud, powerful, and vengeance-driven, but we get to see him transform into a humble, forgiving, sacrificial person.

Captain America isn't quite perfect... didn't he slip up in Avengers 2 and say a swear word? ;) I'm actually wondering if he won't be quite as perfect in Captain America: Civil War. Less than a month till we find out!

I love Spiderman, and the Flash. I also love Larryboy. :) When we were little (like 4), we would get up early and watch Spiderman and his Amazing Friends. I don't pay attention to superheroes much... but the ones I do pay attention to I like.

I haven't seen any of the old Flash shows, but I've seen some of the new ones, and I really like them. Although, they do stress me out sometimes.

Larryboy is amazing for three reasons:
    1) Veggietales is amazing.
    2) He's a superhero.
    3) He is a combination of a bunch of superheroes, while his movies are sometimes based off classic movies, as are lots of Veggietales. For example, we watched Little Shop of Horrors and then watched Larryboy and the Rumor Weed (Little Shop of Horrors freaked us out, especially because we accidentally watched the extended bad ending version), and realized they share lots in common. For example, there is a giant, evil, singing weed in both.

    I really liked this post!

  7. Will you also have a 'favorite super heroine?' poll? :)

From this crew, I have to go with LarryBoy. The plungers say it all.
